How big is it?

14.8 in / 37.5 cm tall and 13.8 in / 35 cm across the belly. The mouth is 8.3 in / 21 cm and the base 7.1 in / 18 cm.

Will it hold water?

It's stoneware with an unglazed rim, made for dried stems and branches. If you use fresh flowers, stand a liner or a glass inside it.

Why does it look worn?

That's the finish — a chalky weathered surface applied by hand. Each vase is mottled differently, and the bare clay shows warm at the rim.

Can it go outside?

Under cover, yes — a porch or a covered terrace. It isn't made to sit out in frost and rain.

A round-bellied stoneware vase in grey and white, with a weathered chalky surface that looks as though it has been somewhere before. Each one is finished individually, so the mottling falls differently every time and the bare clay rim shows warm against it.

Scale that changes a room

Fifteen inches of belly asks for branches, not a bouquet. Three bare stems, a spray of eucalyptus, pampas left all winter — the weight of the piece does the work, so the arrangement can be almost nothing and still look deliberate.

A few things worth knowing before it arrives.

What are the openings?

The mouth measures 8.3 in / 21 cm and the base 7.1 in / 18 cm, so it takes thick branches as easily as thin stems.

Fresh flowers or dried?

Dried and branches are what it's made for. For fresh, drop a glass or a plastic liner inside and fill that instead.

Is the finish fragile?

It's a matte weathered surface, so it will mark if you drag it across grit. Lift rather than slide and it stays as it arrived.

Will mine be identical to the photo?

The shape and scale, yes. The mottling, no — that falls differently on every piece.

How do I clean it?

Dust it, or wipe with a barely damp cloth. Don't scrub the surface and don't put it in a dishwasher.

Every piece is shaped, sanded and finished in a small workshop. Grain, tone and outline move from one to the next, so the piece that arrives is yours rather than a copy of the photograph.
