How tall are they?

9 in / 23 cm each. Tall enough to read across a table without blocking anyone's face.

Are candles included?

No. They take standard tapers — the black tapers and the beeswax candles in this shop both fit.

Why ceramic rather than metal?

Metal conducts the heat of the flame straight down to the table. Ceramic does not, which matters on a wooden surface.

How do I get wax out?

Let it set, then lift it out. A few seconds of warm water on the cup softens anything stubborn.

A matched pair reads as a set, which is furniture-shop thinking. These are the same idea at slightly different weights, so on a table they look gathered rather than bought. Light one and leave the other empty and it still works.

A few things worth knowing before it arrives.

Do I get both?

Yes, the price is for the pair.

Will the table get hot?

No. Ceramic is a poor conductor, so the heat of the flame stays at the top rather than travelling down to the base.

Can I burn the candle right down?

Stop with an inch left above the cup. Burning to the base wastes wax into the cup and makes it harder to clean.

How do I clean them?

A damp cloth. Nothing abrasive on the matte finish, and no dishwasher.

Will they chip?

Ceramic can chip on a hard knock. The matte black goes right through the finish, so a small mark stays discreet.
