How big is it?

16 in / 41 cm long, handle to handle, and shallow. A loaf and a half, or fruit for the week.

Why does it smell of hay?

Because it is real seagrass. The smell is strongest when it is new and fades over the first weeks.

Does the colour change?

Yes. Natural seagrass lightens to a paler straw over the first months and then holds. It is the same for every basket.

How do I clean it?

Shake it out, then vacuum it with a brush head. Keep it out of damp rooms and never soak it.

Seagrass has to be woven while it still has some damp in it. Too dry and it snaps, too wet and the basket goes slack as it dries. The window is short, so the whole thing is made in one sitting.

Questions, answered

A few things worth knowing before it arrives.

Can I put bread straight in it?

Yes. A cloth or a napkin inside makes crumbs easier to deal with, but the basket itself is fine.

Will it hold fruit?

That is what the shallow shape is for — a single visible layer rather than a pile that bruises.

Can I wash it?

No. Water swells the grass and slackens the weave. Shake it out and use a vacuum brush.

Is it strong enough to carry full?

Yes. The handles are worked into the rim rather than glued on, so the load runs through the weave.

Will mine look like the photo?

Close. Hand weaving means the tension varies slightly, so the oval is never identical twice.
