What size candles does it take?

Standard taper candles. The cups will also hold a slim pillar, as long as the base is narrow enough to sit down inside.

How tall is it?

16 in / 41 cm at the tallest stem, spreading 12 in / 30 cm across the feet. The stems are set at different heights on purpose.

Will it tip?

The five feet spread wide and the mass sits low in the centre knot, so it stays put. On a soft cloth, seat it before you light anything.

Can it live outside?

On a covered terrace, yes. Left out in the rain, forged iron will eventually take on a rust bloom.

Description

Five-Arm Iron Candelabra

Five slender rods forged in iron, springing from a single knot low in the centre. They sweep out and down into five curved feet that rest on the table, then turn and rise as five stems, each ending at a different height so the candles stand in an uneven fan rather than a line.

Sixteen inches at the tallest stem, which carries height down a long table without ever blocking a sightline across it. Made for taper candles, though the cups take slim pillars too. Forged by hand, so the rods are never quite identical.

Five stems at five heights read as a fan rather than a row, so you look through it instead of around it. Light three and leave two empty; it still works. That is the part a straight candelabra never gets right.

What are the dimensions?

12 in / 30 cm long, 12 in / 30 cm wide and 16 in / 41 cm tall at the highest stem. It weighs 3.1 lb / 1.4 kg.

Are the candles included?

No, the candelabra ships on its own. It takes standard tapers, which are easy to find anywhere.

Do the stems all reach the same height?

No — they are staggered deliberately, so the flames sit at five different levels.

Will wax damage it?

No. Let the wax set hard, then lift it off the cup with your thumbnail or a blunt knife.

Is every piece identical?

No. The arms are shaped by hand while hot, so the curve of each rod varies slightly from piece to piece.
